Fall Colours are Here! (Winnipeg Family Pictures)

My second shoot yesterday was of this good-looking family. I really liked how they dressed to match the fall colours. The 6-year-old girl wanted to get her picture taken and was a great help with her soon to be 4-year-old brother. Here’s  a preview:

I will be away for the next week. I’ll be checking emails less regularly but may not get your phone messages. I’m going to on a photography trip to a place called Ely, Minnesota. I know most of you have never heard of Ely, but it is a photographer’s dream in terms of nature, with waterfalls, wolves and bears in compounds, and the thing I am most excited to photograph: trees with huge roots that are exposed! I get excited about going just by looking at Joe’s great images. He’s an amazing photographer.

The following 3 images were winners at this month’s Manitoba Camera Club competition. The category was Open. I won’t announce how the images finished yet as the winners won’t be officially announced until Tuesday.

Some of you know that I also do landscape photography and have a website of landscape images.  Portraits keep me very busy but when I’m traveling I take a lot of photos and like to enhance them. I changed that website so that images can be bought directly from the site.  You can buy all sizes and also have them canvas wrapped and mounted. There are a lot of images there. Have a look!

Granite Hills Clouds wins at Red River Exhibition (Winnipeg Photographers)

This is a picture taken at the Granite Hills Golf Course. I have shown this image before on this blog.

As you can see, the sky was truly amazing. It did rain a bit but the clouds were very threatening looking. Threatening clouds make for great pictures. So far, I’ve entered this image in the Manitoba Camera Club competitions twice; one in the Sept. Open and then in the end of the year April Open. It won a first and a second in those competitions. This year the Red River Ex is having an art exhibit as part of its show, including an exhibit by the Manitoba Camera Club. (www.manitobacameraclub.ca)  I entered this image in the photography competition at the Ex and won a second. Yeh clouds I say!!

This image and others will be part of a digital photography exhibit at the Red River Ex. Come out and see the images and meet some of the great people at the camera club. We’ll be in the new big building directly opposite the front entrance. Just go down the road to your left a short distance and you’ll see the new building. I’ll be one of the volunteers there. Snakes, Planes and Trains(Winnipeg Photographers)

Isn’t this weather amazing? I was out shooting a couple of times on the weekend.

A group of us went out to the Narcisse snake pits.   I’m not a big fan of snakes but it was fun to see all the kids (and adults) holding snakes and enjoying themselves. Here are a few pictures that I took.

We met these 2 kids who were having fun with a garter snake. The girl was the brave one holding a snake with no fear. Her brother was happy to watch her!

I also went out with a friend to take some pictures around the city. I’m wondering what people think of when they think of Winnipeg. I mean besides the cold and the mosquitoes. lol Let me know what images come to mind when you think of Winnipeg. My friend and I decided on the theme of trains and planes and came up with these. (We left out cars as that makes me think of Detroit.)

The arches won first place and Image of the Month!!

The train and grain elevator won Honorable Mention

The fireworks won honourable mention.

And my picture of Granite Hills also won First Place!!! How cool is that?? I’ve never done so well.

Here’s the image of Granite Hills. I used it in a previous blog but that was a while ago.

bw 1 finalSo that’s it. The next theme is Flowers. I have a ton of flower pics but don’t know if I have any that are WOW images.  And they need to be WOW images to win.

Competition Entries (Winnipeg Photographers)

Summer may be over according to the calendar but Mother Nature doesn’t seem to know that and I hope she doesn’t figure it out for a long time. I love hot weather and I love summer, but one thing that I do miss in the summer is the meetings at The Manitoba Camera Club. So one of the great things about the fall is the return of our regular Tuesday meetings. Anyone is welcome if you have an interest in photography.

Part of the program of the club are monthly photo competitions. I am sharing some of the images that I’m considering entering. Make a comment at the end of this entry and let me know which one is your favorite and also feel free to make any comments and suggestions.
