It was my pleasure to meet and photograph another lovely grad and her family at Kildonan Park. It seems like almost every grad that I’ve met is leaving Winnipeg to go to school and this girl is no exception. She is off to Toronto next week. I wish her the best of luck but I’m sure she’ll be very successful.

These beautiful young ladies posed for me in the Exchange District in Wpg on Sunday evening. It was hot; very, very hot but the good thing was that there were hardly any people around, the girls were absolutely gorgeous and the architecture was exactly what we wanted for this session.

I love meeting new people and talking to them about their lives and what is important to them. Doing headshots (what a strange name for a portrait) is a perfect time to do that and it was my pleasure to meet Dr. Sara a couple of days ago. We had a great time taking some pictures and chatting. Dr. Sara Korsunsky is a naturopathic doctor who works out of the Centre for Natural Medicine. She is easy to talk to and very down to earth.

A couple of evenings ago I had the pleasure of photographing my great niece with her parents. I’ve been photographing this girl for most of her life and it’s hard for me to believe that she is finished grade 12. Sarah is not only beautiful, kind and smart; she is an amazing writer and will go onto university to become a teacher.

Sometimes the best images are candids. I love this candid image for the story that it tells. It is a slice of life happening and it makes me ask questions like: why does LC , the guy with the shades, has his knee on the dog! Is this his way of keeping Roo (the dog) under control? Does it work? Or is his leg just tired and he’s using Roo as a post to lean on? I also wonder who Sarah was texting? And why she has such a big smile? Did she get a really nice message from someone or is she just happy that our photography session is over.
Life in a photograph! That’s what this is.
I hadn’t done any photography sessions for over a month. That has been my choice. I don’t feel safe having people in my home studio with Covid cases being so high. I have a husband who has lymphoma and I want to be extra vigilant about exposure, especially with the new variants. My husband is fine right now and we want to keep it that way.
Now that we have warm weather and the leaves are out on the trees, I will do sessions outdoors. The session that I am featuring today was done on my property and the family shown lives right around the corner from us!
I love the picture below. Our neighbour’s dog, Gypsy, saw us outside and came over to visit. Gypsy was excited to give me hugs and kisses and didn’t want to leave. Usually, I welcome Gypsy, but in this case, I needed her to move, but the whole interaction gave us this wonderful picture!
After Gypsy left, we were able to get a posed image.
I loved photographing these 2 beautiful girls; aged 6 and 8. Aren’t they lovely?
I did 2 more fundraising sessions this week for Spirit of Hope Rescue. I’m really enjoying meeting and photographing these dogs and their owners.
Yesterday, I had the 3 dogs shown below come with their owners. Each dog had a different personality. The black dog would bark and bay in response to my woofs and the big white dog would wander around the studio checking things out and happily accepting treats. The little white girl is blind, quite quiet and very cooperative. She even managed the stairs with no problem. BTW: I had to do one head switch for this picture. Can you tell which dog?
These 2 had just gotten engaged so we did a few pictures without the dogs. Actually, the dogs were under foot but it didn’t matter!
Today I met this lovely girl named Lady and she really was a lady! Lady didn’t want to be still for pictures and found the smells in the studio very interesting. The only way to get her to stay still was to give her treats or get her to shake a paw.

Spirit of Hope Rescue is an amazing organization that rescues dogs from 38 Northern Manitoba Indigenous communities and finds them forever homes. In 2020, these hard working, dedicated people rescued 546 dogs and processed 1395 adoption applications. They have rescued over 3500 dogs in the last 9 years! We’ve adopted 2 of their dogs and it both cases it was a wonderful experience.
I started a photography fundraiser to help with SOHR’s vet costs and other expenses that occur when you have as many as 115 dogs in foster care at one time. These expenses include blankets, kennels, leashes, collars, food and large vet bills as many of the dogs are not well.
Here are some of the dogs that have come for a photography session with their owners for this fundraiser.
I love dogs and I really enjoyed meeting these dogs and their owners. Plus I want to continue to help this organization, so I am continuing this fundraiser for the next month.

I love meeting families and photographing their children while they grow up. It has been very rewarding to have done 8 sessions with this beautiful family over the last 5 years. I was currently working on a First Year Plan for their youngest son, but because of Covid we didn’t get the 4 sessions done in a year. L is 19 months old now and his big brother is 5. Aren’t they adorable?
We were at the lake on the weekend where the fall colours were amazing.
When we got back to our house, we were shocked to see that the trees had lost 90% of their leaves. The trees with the beautiful red colours were bare! I had counted on fall colours for a family session. Fortunately, the trees at the back of our property still had leaves on them.
So that is where we did the session with this good-looking family. I enjoyed meeting and photographing them.

The End of Summer Edition
I loved meeting all the dogs that came for my first round of dog portraits.
Here are some of the wonderful dogs that I photographed in the spring.
My goal in doing these model calls is to put together a book similar to one that I received for Christmas last year. I love the book shown below and the adorable dogs in it.
In order to be consistent with the next round of pictures I will use a black or a brown backdrop. The sessions will likely need to be done in the studio. The other option is to hang a backdrop in the yard and do them outside. This may be easier for some dogs that are more timid. Doing sessions outdoors is always weather and shade dependent, so times would be more limited but I think it could work well.
The details of this model call are listed below and are the same as the first round of pictures. I will need a $50 retainer from you in order to book your session. As well, you will need to fill in a form with details about your dog.

A while ago, before the pandemic, I offered a little girls dress up special that included a draw for a $600 prize. I am happy to report that this little girl’s mom won the prize. The lucky winner decided that she would like an album. I had done a few previous sessions for this long time client, so I included images from previous sessions and created this lovely album. I know this album will be enjoyed for years to come by this family.

I love this poster which we have up in our cabin. I hope you are all “digging life” right now at this difficult time. I think many of us have given more thought to the things that are most important in life and I think this poster sums it up really well.
