So Adorable at One! (Winnipeg Child Photographers)

The last time I saw this adorably cute little girl she was a newborn and look at her now! At one, this little girl is full of smiles and was a perfect model for me.

Too bad she wasn’t impressed with her cake!

Here’s a sneak peek of this beautiful little girl.

Clothing Choices (Winnipeg Photographer: Families, Children, Newborn)

This post from June remains my number one viewed post and I decided to repost it.

This is my 100th post. Hard to believe!! Time does fly by, but the good thing is that we finally have some nice weather.

I have had a lot of inquiries on getting fall family pictures taken. Please don’t delay in booking  a shoot as I will be away from Oct. 5th till the 12th. I’m going to visit my favorite little person, my grandson in Calgary. I will also be spending some time in Canmore where I am hoping to take pictures of the mountains and some fall scenes.

Here is the clothing choices post:

People often ask me what they should wear for a shoot, so today I am writing about clothing choice, as well as  including some examples of family pictures with  great clothing combinations.

The clothing that people are wearing is not the first thing that you should notice in a family picture. The relationship between the people in the picture and their expressions should be what your eyes focus on.  If everyone is wearing clothing that has stripes, patterns, or some kind of design it takes away from the most important part of the image, which is the faces of the people in the portrait. It is best if everyone wear the same colour or shades of the same colour. That way the focus is on the faces of the people, as well as making the family look like a cohesive whole. Most people make sure that what they wear on a particular day matches. Take that a step further and make sure that the people that will be in a portrait also match each other. It really does make a difference. Here are some examples:

Grants-24

This family is wearing brown on top and demin. I think it looks great and it also matches the fall leaves! I think the focus is on the interactions between the children and the mom and dad. I love the expression on the dog as well!

I like the white and demin that this family is wearing. The white really make them pop out against the fall leaves. And even though you don’t see their faces, you notice the little girl and wonder what she is saying. The smallest boy is so adorable in it as well. This picture wouldn’t work if the family were wearing different colour, or stripes etc.

Wearing black is an excellent clothing choice when you have a black background. Your eyes go to the interaction and the faces. I love this portrait!

White tops with a white background is also a great choice. Doesn’t this family look great? I love how the baby is holding onto dad’s cheek!

I love this portrait! I think it looks like a poster for a movie. This couple was so much fun to work with. I also photographed their wedding which was awesome. I like the black tops with the jeans.  The colour you pick for your top should be in the brown, black, navy, white or beige range for a portrait that will be a keepsake for years to come. Pant colour can be demin, beige, black or brown.

Session Types and Fees (Winnipeg Child and Family Photographer)

People often ask me what it costs for a session fee and what it involves so I am going to spend some time breaking it down for you.

For all sessions, I prefer to use natural light but this is not always possible because of the many cloudy days that we’ve been having and the variations in window light that people’s homes have.

Here are the types of sesssions that I offer:

In Studio: $100.

In your home with natural light and possibly one hotlight using your own house or yard as a backdrop: $100.

In your home with a studio setup: $150. As you can imagine, bringing the backdrop stand and the backdrop, as well as lights is a lot of loading, unloading and setup work.

Outside in a park etc: $100

Newborns: in your home or at my house with a backdrop is $75. This is because newborns are my favorite clients. What could be more precious than a newborn’s tiny feet and hands and the way that they smell.  If it is part of the Baby’s First Year Club then it is $200 for 4 shoots and that is payable at the time of the newborn shoot.

Event coverage is $150/hour.

I hope that’s clear.

I am also adding a couple of the cards that I made up.

Today I had the pleasure of photographing a little beauty. D is 21 months old and as pretty as can be. I also love the natural way that she poses all by herself!

Thank you to Mom and Grandma for bringing D to see me once again.

Here are a few previews from today. I’m looking forward to developing the rest of the pictures.

Pictures of Austria (Winnipeg Landscape Photographer)

I have my images of Austria ready and online for anyone to view. You can see them at this link:

http://picasaweb.google.com/ChrisMcWilliamsPhotography

Included in the gallery are images of Vienna, Steyr, the abby at St. Florian and a few of Salzburg. It was hot while I was in Europe.  Every day was between 35 and 38 degrees. Now I love heat and I love summer but the day we were in Salzburg the heat got to me and I never took as many pictures as I would have liked to. It was the kind of heat that left you sucked right out and made you want to drop and never get up again. I don’t say that easily but the day we were in Salzburg was no day for walking around. Or at least it wasn’t for us. So I have only a few pictures from there. Most of my pictures are from Steyr because I spent the most time there and also because it’s just such a picturesque spot. Have a look. Let me know if you have favorites. I always love to get feedback.

And Baby Makes Four (Winnipeg Newborn and Family Photographer)

Have I ever been lucky with the sweet little girl babies  lately. On  Tuesday I had the pleasure of photographing this adorable 2 week old baby. Even though D did not want to sleep in the whole 2.5 hours that she was here,  she never cried either and she made the most amazing eye contact for a newborn! I saw her brother again who I had photographed 4 times in the past.  He’s going to be a charmer for all the girls with his beautiful big eyes and long eyelashes.

Thank you so much to A and A for bringing their kids here.  I will be seeing more of D, as she is now in my Baby’s First Year Club.

Baby’s First Year Club (Winnipeg Newborn Photographer)

I have decided to reduce the price of “Baby’s First Year Club” for the rest of August.

The price will be $200 instead of $300. Baby’s First Year Club includes 4 photo shoots spaced out between the birth of your child until his first birthday, as well as an 8.5×11 hard cover photo book of your child’s first year.

If  you are expecting a baby or know someone who is, let them know about this offer. The Baby’s First Year Club membership also makes a great gift idea.

Call me if you have any questions or send me an email. My number is 204-669-0498 and my email is chrismcwilliams@shaw.ca.

Bastille Day in Paris (Winnipeg Photographer)

One of the highlights of my trip to Europe was Bastille Day in Paris. The fireworks were amazing but it was more the experience of the whole day. Military vehicles drove down the streets during the day and French flags were everywhere. It seemed like a great idea to see the fireworks at the Eiffel Tower and get some shots of this famous landmark all ablaze. I don’t know if my cousin and her family have forgiven me yet for suggesting this outing. I hope that in hindsite they can see the value of having been in a crowd of over a million people and having no way of getting back to our hotel except by using our own two feet.

We got to the Eiffel Tower site in plenty of time, which was maybe our first mistake because it only meant that we had to wait longer and breathe the smoke filled air for longer. There was no breeze at all, the temperature was over 30 C (as it was for most of our trip), and there were wall to wall people. And half of them were smoking. Smoking all around us. The French smoke a lot!! While people were waiting, they played cards, had picnics, drank, baby’s cried, children screamed and ran around and not only that. We were entertained a French singer who drove the crowd wild with excitement.  Unfortunately for us, he seemed to be able to croon out the songs with no break at all. Endless love songs in French. The speakers were enormous so he was loud. And there was  a big jumbo screen to watch him gyrate his hips if you were interested.  And people took pictures with all their point and shoots. I found it interesting to take pictures of the people taking pictures and capturing what it was they saw on their camera screen. The fireworks were amazing. There is no doubt about that as you will see in the video.

We left halfway through the fireworks because we were concerned about how all of these people would get home. We didn’t need to have bothered. There was only one way to get home and that was walking. People were crowded into subway stations like sardines. And I would rather walk for 2 hours than be pushed and shoved around in a crowd. So we walked. And we walked. We walked for 2 hours often not knowing if we were going the right way. There was no chance to getting a cab either. The streets were full of people walking in masse. Every once in a while a car would come through the crowd with the driver blasting his horn and not caring if he hit someone. It was every man for himself.

We got back to our hotel at 1 a.m. In the end, it was a memorable experience and I did get some great shots of the fireworks. But I would not do it again. Not unless I was assured of nobody smoking around me and safe passage out of the crowd. And really what are the chances of that happening?

Watch the video and enjoy!

Wild and Wonderful Wedding (Winnipeg Wedding Photographer)

Sometimes my job as a wedding photographer is so much fun that I can’t believe I am actually getting paid as well! Last night was one of those times. Jason and Ginette, the couple getting married, know how to have fun and so did all of their guests. It was exactly the kind of photography that I love. Jason has a name for it; NINJA Photography. I wonder if I should advertise using that name. Ninja Photography is about capturing the moment as it happens. And that’s what we did last night. Of course, Jason and Ginette made sure that there were many moments to captures. You can see some of them here.

First though some of the more serious moments.

And now some of the seriously funny stuff!!

You may wonder what that is up in the air. It’s the bride’s bouquet. What a great sport she was to take my partner’s suggeston and throw it like a ball. I love Jason’s and Ginette’s intense expressions while throwing the bouquet.

The house you see in this picture is where the wedding was and what a great night for an outdoor wedding.

Happy Honeymoon Jason and Ginette and much happiness in the years to come.
