Simply Adorable! (Winnipeg Child Photographers)

One of my favorite kids came to visit me yesterday and we got some amazing pictures done. I’ve been photographing this little girl since she was born and she just keeps getting more beautiful. She also loves to dress up and follows directions like a pro.

Have a look:

I photographed my first little girl’s dress up sessions yesterday and it was a hit!

This is Iszie, whose birthday is today. The last time I photographed her she was 3. She’s just as adorable now as she was then.  Iszie loves posing and the camera loves her. In these images she is wearing her mom’s grad dress and her grandma’s wedding dress. Isn’t she adorable!

Happy 6th Birthday Iszie! You are one of my all time favorites!

Stunning Sisters (Winnipeg Family Photographers)

Two of the most stunning girls came to see me yesterday. Stunning and wonderful to photography. The 8 year old was a little camera shy, but her 4 year old sister was a natural in front of the camera. I am so glad that their parents brought them to my studio to get their pictures taken. Have a look.

I’m going to be visiting my son and his family in Calgary next week. I will still be answering emails and checking phone messages. There are only 2 days left for my special offer for any babies under one year of age. It will be ending this Sunday at midnight. Get a free DVD of 10 images from your shoot if you book in the next 2 days. That’s a $200 savings. Email me now so you don’t forget. This offer is only open for babies under the age of one.

I challenged myself to not spend money on clothes for one year and so far it’s been 4 months!! I’m one third of the way there. And it is getting easier. The hardest part is if I’m in Super Store and walk by the clothing with is marked down. I want to stop, I want to stop. So far so good; I’ve just kept walking. And as time goes on, it is getting easier. Why are you doing that you ask? Good question. Actually there are 2 reason. One is to save money, so that I have more money for travel. The other reason is because I want tochange my consumer thinking of buy, buy BUY!! I do not need anything to wear. I have a closet stuffed with clothes. I think the spring will be the hardest. I love summer dresses and skirts, but I have enough. More is not always better.  I can do this. Only 8 months to go!!

Enjoy your weekend. Have fun routing for Canada!

Artistic Photography (Winnipeg Photographers)

A clent recently asked me what artistic photography was.  I guess it can mean different things to different people and it does include a lot of different things. Photoshop has made pretty much anything possible as far as changing a photograph is concerned. I love playing with pictures and seeing how I can enhance or change the original. I did a few new ones today to give myself a break from working on the bookwork. Here are a few of my recent enhancements. Let me know what you think.

In this first one, I change the image to a sepia tone called tea stained and then added a texture layer.  Beautiful couple.

In the image of the cake, I converted the image to black and white and then brought the colour back to the flowers. I love this cake and it was right by a window, which led to all kinds of photo possibilities.

I really played with this one. Her nose looks blurry to me, but the veil was over her nose. I put a cloud layer over the bride and then brought back some of the window frame. She was originally looking out at a golf course. What do you think of this one? Very different!

I love this image of the couple almost kissing. I played with it a lot too. Not sure what I did, but I really like it.

This bride has no idea what is happening behind her, as the bassilica has turned into an endless tunnel. I love the fun aspect of pictures like this.

Those are some of my most recent artistic images. Now it’s back to the books. Yawn, I think I need a nap!!

Church in Morley, Alberta (Winnipeg Landscape Photographer)

Yes there is a church in Morley, Alberta. When I hear of the name Morley,  I always think of the guy on CBC radio, who tells stories and one of the people in his stories is named Morley. I love his voice but I can’t think of his name. What is his name? Anyone out there know?

Anyways, here I am in Calgary looking after my grandson, who turned 8 years old last Sunday at exactly 10:04 a.m.  And that’s the exact time  we started to celebrate. It was a crazy and very fun day.  My son and his wife are in Las Vegas so I get to do what I like all day while my grandson is in school. Since I love to take pictures, I’ve been taking field trips every day to photograph things around Calgary. My most successful day has been the first one when I went to take pictures of the church. This church would make anyone’s pictures look great. The church is neat but it’s the log fence in front of it that gives the pictures  that extra punch. Have a look.

And one postcard type picture taken at Bragg Creek today.

Competition Entries (Winnipeg Photographers)

Summer may be over according to the calendar but Mother Nature doesn’t seem to know that and I hope she doesn’t figure it out for a long time. I love hot weather and I love summer, but one thing that I do miss in the summer is the meetings at The Manitoba Camera Club. So one of the great things about the fall is the return of our regular Tuesday meetings. Anyone is welcome if you have an interest in photography.

Part of the program of the club are monthly photo competitions. I am sharing some of the images that I’m considering entering. Make a comment at the end of this entry and let me know which one is your favorite and also feel free to make any comments and suggestions.

Here they are:

Clothing Choices (Winnipeg Photographer: Families, Children, Newborn)

This post from June remains my number one viewed post and I decided to repost it.

This is my 100th post. Hard to believe!! Time does fly by, but the good thing is that we finally have some nice weather.

I have had a lot of inquiries on getting fall family pictures taken. Please don’t delay in booking  a shoot as I will be away from Oct. 5th till the 12th. I’m going to visit my favorite little person, my grandson in Calgary. I will also be spending some time in Canmore where I am hoping to take pictures of the mountains and some fall scenes.

Here is the clothing choices post:

People often ask me what they should wear for a shoot, so today I am writing about clothing choice, as well as  including some examples of family pictures with  great clothing combinations.

The clothing that people are wearing is not the first thing that you should notice in a family picture. The relationship between the people in the picture and their expressions should be what your eyes focus on.  If everyone is wearing clothing that has stripes, patterns, or some kind of design it takes away from the most important part of the image, which is the faces of the people in the portrait. It is best if everyone wear the same colour or shades of the same colour. That way the focus is on the faces of the people, as well as making the family look like a cohesive whole. Most people make sure that what they wear on a particular day matches. Take that a step further and make sure that the people that will be in a portrait also match each other. It really does make a difference. Here are some examples:

Grants-24

This family is wearing brown on top and demin. I think it looks great and it also matches the fall leaves! I think the focus is on the interactions between the children and the mom and dad. I love the expression on the dog as well!

I like the white and demin that this family is wearing. The white really make them pop out against the fall leaves. And even though you don’t see their faces, you notice the little girl and wonder what she is saying. The smallest boy is so adorable in it as well. This picture wouldn’t work if the family were wearing different colour, or stripes etc.

Wearing black is an excellent clothing choice when you have a black background. Your eyes go to the interaction and the faces. I love this portrait!

White tops with a white background is also a great choice. Doesn’t this family look great? I love how the baby is holding onto dad’s cheek!

tracy and chris-29

I love this portrait! I think it looks like a poster for a movie. This couple was so much fun to work with. I also photographed their wedding which was awesome. I like the black tops with the jeans.  The colour you pick for your top should be in the brown, black, navy, white or beige range for a portrait that will be a keepsake for years to come. Pant colour can be demin, beige, black or brown.

A natural for the camera (Winnipeg Child and Family Photographer)

Today I had the pleasure of photographing a little beauty. D is 21 months old and as pretty as can be. I also love the natural way that she poses all by herself!

Thank you to Mom and Grandma for bringing D to see me once again.

Here are a few previews from today. I’m looking forward to developing the rest of the pictures.

Pictures of Austria (Winnipeg Landscape Photographer)

I have my images of Austria ready and online for anyone to view. You can see them at this link:

http://picasaweb.google.com/ChrisMcWilliamsPhotography

Included in the gallery are images of Vienna, Steyr, the abby at St. Florian and a few of Salzburg. It was hot while I was in Europe.  Every day was between 35 and 38 degrees. Now I love heat and I love summer but the day we were in Salzburg the heat got to me and I never took as many pictures as I would have liked to. It was the kind of heat that left you sucked right out and made you want to drop and never get up again. I don’t say that easily but the day we were in Salzburg was no day for walking around. Or at least it wasn’t for us. So I have only a few pictures from there. Most of my pictures are from Steyr because I spent the most time there and also because it’s just such a picturesque spot. Have a look. Let me know if you have favorites. I always love to get feedback.

And Baby Makes Four (Winnipeg Newborn and Family Photographer)

Have I ever been lucky with the sweet little girl babies  lately. On  Tuesday I had the pleasure of photographing this adorable 2 week old baby. Even though D did not want to sleep in the whole 2.5 hours that she was here,  she never cried either and she made the most amazing eye contact for a newborn! I saw her brother again who I had photographed 4 times in the past.  He’s going to be a charmer for all the girls with his beautiful big eyes and long eyelashes.

Thank you so much to A and A for bringing their kids here.  I will be seeing more of D, as she is now in my Baby’s First Year Club.
