Fine Art Photography

I am excited to announce that 5 of my fine art photography images are hanging at Cre8tery   (http://www.cre8ery.com/) The pictures are various sizes and prices. The largest is Autumn Pallette au Metal, which won Most Creative Image with The Professional Photographer of Canada (Manitoba). Also hanging is The Tree of Divination which won Best Contemporary Image with The Manitoba Camera Club, as well as, Lily, The Face in the Tatters and Serenity. 

Cre8tery is in the Exchange District on the  2nd floor at 125 Adelaide Street. 

It is open:Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday, 12-6pm

Saturday 12-5pm

Cre8tery will be open late for First Friday on Sept. 8th.

Drop in if you have a chance. My pictures will be hanging until the end of Thanksgiving weekend.

Lights, Camera, Editing, Portraits!

This is a repeat of an article in my last newsletter. I am including it for my new clients and am also adding some information to it.

It is very important to me that you love the images from your session. I will do my utmost from the beginning of our correspondence to you’re receiving your order to make sure that you are happy with the experience and the result. To that end, I want to explain the steps in the whole process.

1. You come for your portrait session.
2. I put a few of your images on my blog.
3. I do an initial editing of your images. This is often called a “soft editing”. It involves colour correction, some clean up of the background, lightening if needed and cropping. At this point, your images will not be completely edited, except for the ones on my blog.
4. You receive a password protected gallery to review your proofs.
5. You send your order to me by email.
6. I do a full editing of the images that you ordered. This involves a full background clean up, removing blemishes, smoothing skin, brightening eyes, head swaps if needed, and further corrections for colour and brightness. You can preview these images after I have worked on them if you like. Once you are happy with them:
7. You receive an invoice from me, make payment and pick up your order or have it mailed to you.

I accept payment by cash, cheque, interac e-transfer, credit cards and Paypal.

This is the most time efficient way for me to operate. Most galleries have between 20 and 50 images in them. It only takes  me a few minutes to do the “soft edit”, whereas the final edit might take 20 minutes. The soft edit includes correcting lighting and colour, as well as cropping and some skin corrections. The final edit involves a full clean up of the backdrop and more skin corrections.

You can see the progression in the images below. The first image is straight out of the camera. In the first soft edit, I lightened it, cropped it and did some colour corrections. In the final completely edited image, I straightened the floor, make the wrap more symmetrical, took some red out the babies skin, removed some of the shadow around the babies head on the left and burned the edges of the floor. The first edit didn’t take long but the final one took me about 20 minutes.

Aren’t these twins cute! They were super sleepy babies as well. I loved every minute of this session!

And Finally

Isn’t this the truth? What other record will we have that we lived? Only printed images will survive the test of time and be there for future generations to see.
